Talks

1) The Origin of Philosophy and Science

Philosophy and science simultaneously began in Ancient Greece. The ideas developed back then are at the foundation of modern democracy, scientific development and rational thought. Understanding how it all began enables us to better navigate our modern world, as well as function more sensibly in our daily lives.

2) A Broader Perspective

I have developed a philosophical theory that may turn your idea of the nature of reality on its head. The alternative to the surprising conclusion at any rate is highly problematic, and consequently this talk keeps your brain ticking, and sets the stage for a lively discussion. The subject matter builds on my presentation “Evolution of Consciousness” and revolves around the concept of akrasia, or our tendency to act against our own better judgement. It deals with such questions as:

What governs the laws of nature?

Why are we here and not someplace else?

How do we become happy, and why are we often not?

3) Music and Honesty

Musicians express their feelings through song in a way rarely seen in normal everyday conversation. Can reflecting on this truth inspire us to become more honest with each other in our everyday lives? In this talk we explore what some of the great philosophers believed it was that made music such a powerful vehicle for truth. With this as our outset, you are invited to share why your favorite song matters to you.

4) Bad Arguments That Make You Smarter

Media and the public sphere are filled with bad arguments, also known as logical fallacies. Through everyday examples of logical fallacies the audience will learn how to better spot shortcomings in their own as well as others’ argumentation, enabling one to argue better and more persuasively.

5) Evolution of Consciousness- From Abe to Einstein and Beyond?

How did human consciousness evolve and how might we utilize it better? In this well received presentation I address these questions using everyday examples and well reasoned thought provoking arguments that invite the audience to reflect on who we are and the potential we possess.

'An eye-opening presentation about philosophy, human development and some suggestions on why we act the way we do - us modern humans.'

6) A Bleak or Bright Future with Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence has been referred to as both the best and the worst thing that can potentially happen to humanity. Its implications are so far reaching that it has been compared to the shift from agricultural to industrial society. In this talk we look into why Artificial Intelligence looks set to influence both our near and our far future, and invites participants to debate how we can best ensure that its development is to our advantage. Perhaps it can even help us to better reflect on who we are as a species, what values we cherish, what makes us unique, and what the endgame is to our existence.
